Fire trucks!

We had a great Thanksgiving, and I've got lots of pictures to post for you. But before I get to that I wanted to share some pictures of Ira at the Beulah Volunteer Fire Department in Beulah, FL. I'll get the Thanksgiving pictures up in the next few days.

Here's Ira driving the fire truck.

Here he is with his uncle, Luke, and his cousins, David, Holley and Jacob.

Ira in the driver's seat again. The Beulah Fire Dept calls themselves the Big Dawgs, thus the awesome window decals.

Happy Halloween

Ira loves Halloween. At least he loves dressing up like Elvis Presley and showing off. And he loves pumpkins and pointing at pumpkins and yelling, "Pumpkin!"

This isn't Halloween. This is the night before, but Ira put on his Elvis suit to watch me carve my first pumpkin.

Like I said, it's my first jack-o-lantern so don't judge.

Here's a picture of Ira on Halloween with his full Elvis get up.

We loved the sideburns, but by the end of night Ira had black ink all over his face.

Ira came to pick me up from work in his costume. Believe it or not, he wasn't the first person dressed like Elvis I've seen at the library.

New Videos

Some videos from the past few weeks.

First up is a little look into the sort of wacky fun we have during bath time. It gets crazy in that tub.

Here's a montage from our trip to the pumpkin farm. We didn't realize at the time, but Ira had an ear infection. That's why he looks a little unhappy. I don't know why I look so grumpy. We actually had a great time.

This video is from the Molasses and Music festival at the Ellington Agricultural Center, which is just down the road from our house. We've been hanging out at farms and zoos a lot lately. There are no animals in the this clip, though. Here, we see Ira dancing to poorly sung gospel music.

And finally we have a video I made with Ira this afternoon. I started recording with the camera on our laptop, and Ira got excited watching himself. He's pointing at himself and saying, "Ira!"

I've posted pictures from our expeditions to the Pumpkin Patch and Molasses Fest on Picasa for you to browse at your convenience. Here's a few pics to encourage you to check out the rest.

Ira and Some Animals

Last month Ira had few encounters with animals. First, Ira and Kirsten went to the Nashville Zoo . I was stuck at work. Daddy misses out on all the fun.

Unfortunately, trying to wrangle a toddler (he's a toddler now, by the way. Crazy) makes it hard to take good pictures. At least that's Kirsten's excuse for not taking any good pictures. In this picture Ira's looking at some llamas. Maybe they're alpacas. I don't know. I was at the library.

Here Ira is in the petting zoo headed for a goat. This leads into our next animal encounter. We stopped in Asheville, NC on our way home from Charleston last month and took Ira to the WNC Nature Center to commune with the animals.

This bear climbed a tree for us, which was awesome. I didn't know non-koala/panda bears could climb trees. This black bear can. And fast. Faster than I could. Ira didn't really understand how cool this was to watch.

Ira did understand how cool it was to hang with sheep and goats, though. He doesn't always look very excited, but Ira is having the time of his life here.

Look at those horns! That's a ram. Crazy.

Party!

Ira's birthday isn't until September 26, but, since he's so advanced and did every thing else before every other baby, we figured, why not have his birthday party early, too? Well, that, and having the party labor day weekend made it easier for all of Ira's grandparents to come to town and celebrate with us. We were so happy that all of Ira's grandparents plus some aunts and uncles and cousins all got to come up. Ira was glad to see everyone again. Ira's Big G (my mom) even came to town a couple days early and hung out with us. Unfortunately, I have a hard enough time trying to remember to carry sippy cups and extra diapers and shoes and socks and wipes and snacks so I forgot to bring my camera and take pictures of all the fun we had. We picked Big G up from the airport and got to see so many people and cars; Ira was very excited. And we went to Centennial Park to watch the ducks and test Ira's walking skills on the playground. A goose even tried to eat Big G. Too bad I'm brain dead and didn't have a camera. Hopefully, Granny took some pictures and will send them to me.

The highlight of the weekend was, however, Ira's first birthday party. Despite being only eleven months old, Ira acted the part of a one year old perfectly. I think he was just happy to be surrounded by all of his friends and family. If you weren't there, I'm sure we would have missed you, if we weren't all concentrating on our awesome cupcakes.

The beautiful cake and cupcakes were made by Alexandra (http://bakemeovervegan.blogspot.com/) and decorated by Alexandra and Kirsten.

The birthday boy and his mommy (that's daddy in the background).

Ira didn't seem to mind wearing a silly hat. Silly hats were provided by a mysterious, anonymous source. Very eerie.

Ira admires his wagon full of presents. Although Ira's never exhibited a proprietary attitude towards anything in the past, he seemed to know that the wagon belonged to him and didn't like other kids touching it. Ahh, the joys of growing up.

He didn't completely mind sharing, though.

Opening presents.

Blowing out the candle.

In these next few pictures, you can see that Ira knew exactly what to do with that beautiful cake.

If you want to see more pictures from the party, those plus pictures from Ira's recent trips to the Adventure Science Center and the Greek Fest are all on Picasa. That's where I store our photo albums. There's always a link to Picasa on the right side of the page, or you can click here to go to our photos.

Look who's walking

Ira's been standing up on his own for awhile. And he'd taken a few steps, though they always seemed accidental. But now he's really walking. Unfortunately, every time we bring out the camera, he stops walking and just stares at us. Last night we sat down and forced him to walk on camera just so we could post it on the blog. You can hear him him say "uh-oh" when he falls down, another new skill.

And to make sure you appreciate our hard work, I'm including one of the many outtakes from last night. This is the cutest, by far.

While I have your attention, I want to show you what Kirsten and Ira did a couple of Saturdays ago. I was stuck at home waiting for the cable guy, and they went off to the Tomato Art Festival in East Nashville. Check out Ira's adorable tomato costume.
