Memorial Day in Pensacola

We took a drive down to the Gulf Coast for Memorial Day, trying to beat the toxic BP sludge to the beach.

We stopped in Montgomery, AL on the way down, and, perhaps the most exciting part of the trip, Ira slept on a hide-a-bed. A very small hide-a-bed, actually. He thought it was a special Ira-sized bed.

We made it to Poppy and Nonny's house the next day, and Ira was quick to jump in the pool.

Then we went over to Nana and Papa's for Josh's birthday. Ira and his cousins, Cheyenne, Serenity, and Josh, played in a tent in the dining room.

That night, Ira made cookies with Nonny and Poppy. By the time we got back to Nashville Ira was spoiled rotten and filled to the brim with sugar.

Nonny spoiled all of us with banana pancakes for breakfast.

Ira showered GG with chocolate kisses.

GG gave Ira this cool chalk thing, and he decorated her patio.

Back to Nana and Papa's for another birthday party - this time for Holley and Jacob. Since the pool was filled with tweens so Ira just chilled out on a tricycle.

Ira took Papa on a rainy ride on the four-wheeler.

Ira and GP watch Jacob and Holley tear into their gifts.

Ira and Uncle Luke.

Ira's old friend Ryne made dinner for us and then Ira told us some jokes. We actually got this on film so you can laugh along with us.

Our friends Penelope, Rhys, Ryne, and Leila all joined us for dinner.

We got to meet the beautiful Michael for the first time.

Ira really loved his new cousin.

Ira has always loved cherry pickers, or bucket trucks, and we'd forgotten that his Papa had access to parking lots full of these machines. Luckily Kirsten remembered to ask her dad to take us to check them out.

Ira took a picture of himself. Isn't it cute? His first self-portrait profile picture.

It was a day of awesome machines! We followed up the bucket trucks with a trip to the Naval Air Museum.

We went to the museum about a year ago, and Ira remembered where to find the airplanes he could climb in.

There's a gremlin on the wing!

3-2-1 blast off!

Papa, Ira, and Nana outside of the lighthouse on the Navy base.

We had to satisfy ourselves with pictures outside the lighthouse because they only let kids at least 7 years old climb to the top.

What a cute family.

Our last day in town we got to hit the beach. It turned out we got there two days before the tar balls started washing up so we were pretty lucky.

Before we got back on the road to head home we took a walk down to the Bluffs on Scenic Hwy.
